FC Barcelona La Liga Fixture Postponed Due to Club Physician's Death

The upcoming La Liga match involving FC Barcelona has been postponed following the tragic passing of the club's medical director. The decision to delay the fixture was made as a mark of respect and to allow the team and staff time to grieve the loss of a key figure within the organization. Further details regarding the rescheduled date will be announced in due course.

Barcelona's La Liga fixture against Osasuna, scheduled for Saturday, was postponed following the sudden passing of the club's first-team doctor, Carles Minarro Garcia. Barcelona released an official statement expressing their sorrow: "Barcelona deeply regrets to announce the tragic news of the passing of first-team doctor Carles Minarro Garcia this afternoon. As a result, the match against Osasuna has been postponed to a later date. The board of directors and all members of the club extend their heartfelt condolences to his family and friends during this difficult time."

Fans had already begun entering the Olympic Stadium in anticipation of the match, which was called off approximately 20 minutes before the scheduled 8:00 PM GMT kickoff. Barcelona midfielder Pedri shared his grief on Instagram, writing, "I still can't believe it. Sending a big hug to the family and friends of Carles."

Dr. Minarro, aged 53, is survived by his wife and two children. Barcelona president Joan Laporta expressed the club's profound grief, stating, "This is incredibly painful news for Barcelona. We are heartbroken and in shock because it was so sudden. We have contacted his mother and wife to offer our condolences and support during these difficult moments. It is our duty to stand by his family—his wife, children, and mother."

Dr. Minarro had been associated with Barcelona since 2017, working with various teams before joining the men's first-team staff earlier this year. Osasuna president Luis Sabalza expressed his club's full support for the decision to postpone the match, emphasizing, "We understand that life is the most important thing. It is impossible to play a game while mourning the loss of someone who has been such an integral part of the team."

Osasuna also shared their condolences on social media platform X, stating, "Osasuna wishes to convey its deepest sympathies to the family of Dr. Carles Minarro Garcia and extends a heartfelt embrace to all members of Barcelona and their fans during this challenging time. May he rest in peace."

This incident follows the postponement of another La Liga match between Villarreal and Espanyol on Monday due to a severe weather warning for heavy rain in the region.
