LAMINE YAMAL: Yamal extends his appreciation to his "idol" Neymar following the achievement of another prestigious award.
After being named the Best Emerging Player at the Globe Soccer Awards in Dubai, Barcelona prodigy Lamine Yamal took a moment to thank his "idol," Neymar.
The 17-year-old forward continues to captivate the football world, concluding an extraordinary 2024 with yet another distinguished accolade, reinforcing his status as one of the sport’s most promising emerging talents. Having already secured both the Kopa Trophy and the Golden Boy award, he achieved his third individual recognition on Friday, being named Best Emerging Player at the Globe Soccer Awards. In a highly competitive field, Yamal triumphed over several notable contenders, including his Barcelona teammate Pau Cubarsi, Manchester United’s Alejandro Garnacho and Kobbie Mainoo, Real Madrid’s Arda Guler, Manchester City’s Savinho, and Juventus’ Kenan Yildiz. His significant role in Spain’s UEFA Euro 2024 victory in Germany was likely a key factor in his success. When Mundo Deportivo inquired about how he manages the overwhelming attention and praise at such a young age, Yamal responded with maturity and humility.
“At the end of the day, I focus solely on playing football and staying grounded,” he shared. “I’m deeply grateful for all the kind words from legendary figures, particularly Neymar, who has been my idol for as long as I can remember.” Currently sidelined with an ankle injury, Yamal is working diligently to regain full fitness and aims to be ready for Barcelona’s Supercopa de España semi-final against Athletic Club on January 8.
