On the final day of the year, Plymouth terminated manager Wayne Rooney's contract following a series of poor results in the 2024-25 Championship season.

This dismissal prompted widespread reactions on social media, with many users expressing derision towards Rooney's managerial career. 

Birmingham City supporters reiterated prior warnings regarding Rooney's coaching record. Various social media users suggested Rooney should retire from coaching entirely, relinquish his coaching license, or pursue alternative career paths, such as media appearances. Some criticized Plymouth's decision to appoint him initially and questioned the logic behind delaying his dismissal.

 One user highlighted the club's precarious position, entering the transfer window without a manager. Rooney's managerial history includes a relegation with Derby County in 2022, a last-place finish in the MLS Eastern Conference with D.C. United, and a brief 83-day tenure at Birmingham City, which ultimately led to their relegation to League One. 

Plymouth, currently on a nine-game winless streak, will face Bristol City on January 1, with first-team coach Kevin Nancekivell and club captain Joe Edwards taking interim charge while the search for a permanent replacement commences. ³
