A significant winter weather system is forecast to impact parts of the United States as the nation transitions from 2024 to 2025. According to AccuWeather, snowfall is anticipated for regions including the northern and western Great Lakes (Illinois, Indiana, northern/western New York, northern New England) and portions of the Rocky Mountains (Montana, Wyoming, parts of Colorado) on New Year's Eve and New Year's Day. 

Meanwhile, torrential rain is expected to affect the northeastern United States (North Carolina, Virginia, West Virginia, Ohio, Delaware, Maryland, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, southeastern New York, southern New England) from Tuesday afternoon through early Wednesday morning. 

This weather pattern may disrupt New Year's celebrations in these areas, particularly in New York City's Times Square, which is known for its iconic ball drop ceremony.
